Description: Stephen
King's first published novel.
This is a story of a
teenage girl, Carrie, with telekinetic abilities in the New
England town of Chamberlain in 1979. Carrie White is a shy
unpopular girl raised by an eccentric fanatical religious
mother. Teased and treated horribly by her classmates at her
senior prom Carrie uses her supernatural powers with
frightening and devastating results for her classmates. Carrie
uses here telekinetic powers to exact revenge not only upon her
classmates and school but the small pays a heavy toll as
well.
When Carrie’s horrific work
is done in Chamberlain she goes to battle with her religiously
fanatical mother with dire consequences.
This is King's first
published book and rocketed him to stardom. Receiving what was
then a huge $2,500 advance for this book, the paperback rights
were sold for a reported $400,000, King received half of this
payment.
The book was made into a
movie in 1976, produced and directed by Brian De Palma and the
script adaptation from the book written by Lawrence D.
Cohen.
